Ansett gets Aussie gov't aid, set to fly again

WASHINGTON -- Ansett Australia will begin flying again Sept. 29 using four aircraft between Sydney and Melbourne, according to a spokesman for a government-appointed receiver of the airline.

Ansett Australia and Ansett International shut down Sept. 14 after running out of money. The airline will restart operations using a government-sponsored cash infusion while the receiver looks for a buyer.

The spokesman said the government has agreed to guarantee all tickets purchased on Ansett in the event the airline closes yet again.

In the next two weeks the airline hopes to start up flights from Sydney to Perth and from Melbourne to Perth, the spokesman said.
