Chile's Supreme Court thwarts airline joint venture

Chile's Supreme Court has blocked a proposed joint venture between LATAM and both American Airlines and International Airlines Group.

Chile's antitrust tribunal had approved the agreement, but Chilean tourism and consumer-rights groups had appealed that decision, citing competition concerns. The Supreme Court decision sided with those making the appeal.

LATAM plans to continue to pursue the deal -- which already has approval from regulatory bodies in Brazil, Colombia and Uruguay -- outside of Chile, according to Reuters.
