Amadeus is also integrating its health passport solution with health information aggregators, including CommonPass developer the Commons Project Foundation, which is backed by the World Economic Forum.

The integrations will enable the Clear and Amadeus health passports to receive data directly from CommonPass' registry of health institutions and technology companies that have agreed to use open, interoperable standards to deliver and secure Covid-19 testing and vaccination records.

That registry, called Common Trust Network, is a key piece of CommonPass' effort to ensure that border agencies, airlines and other entities that must confirm Covid-19 vaccinations or testing records can do so with confidence that the records came from a trusted healthcare source, have been delivered securely and are linked to the correct individual.

More than 15 technology providers are developing health passports, including CommonPass itself. The solutions are being put forward both as stand-alone apps and to be integrated into the existing apps of airlines, other travel companies, workplaces and sports and concert venues.

Last month, 25 companies in the travel, technology and health sectors founded the Good Health Pass Collaborative with the goal of creating a blueprint for interoperable digital health pass systems. Clear and CommonPass were among those companies, as were AOK Pass and the International Chamber of Commerce, both of which Amadeus is also working with.

In addition, in January a group of healthcare and technology providers, including CommonPass, established the Vaccination Credential Initiative with the similar goal of "empowering individuals with digital access to their vaccination records based on open, interoperable standards."

The Commons Project CEO Paul Meyers says the key is to have all digital health information generated in a standard format.

"If you get that right, then downstream, whether through Clear or an airline app or whatever, the airlines and the border agencies and the sports teams can have confidence that the data was actually generated by a credible lab or healthcare provider at the beginning."

A cohesive ecosystem of digital health passports will be key both to convince governments to drop travel restrictions and to ease passenger processing at airports, travel industry leaders says.
