Delta and the Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) have released new renderings of the planned Delta Sky Way, on which construction will begin in the fall at Los Angeles International Airport.

The release came in the wake of the LAWA board's recent approval of the $1.86 billion project and during a press conference held by Delta CEO Ed Bastian and Los Angeles mayor Eric Garcetti on Thursday.

The Sky Way will connect LAX terminals 2 and 3 to the Tom Bradley International Terminal. However, the Sky Way project includes much more than just the walkway. The seven-year effort also will involve a complete reconstruction of Terminal 3, including new gates, upgraded retail space, new signage and new restrooms, among other features.

The Delta Sky Way project is augmenting the city of Los Angeles' $14 billion capital improvement program at LAX that has been ongoing since 2008.
