Etihad Airways will increase the frequency of its flights between the United Arab Emirates and Dallas/Fort
Worth.
Beginning Feb. 2,
Etihad will fly daily between Dallas and its Abu Dhabi hub, upping the service
from its current rate of three times per week.
“The increased frequency will provide greater convenience and more
options to business and leisure travelers throughout the Texas region, and will
also cater to the huge travel market from India and the subcontinent to and
from our Dallas/Fort Worth gateway and beyond,” Etihad chief planning and
strategy officer Kevin Knight said in a statement.
Last year Delta, American and United called on the Obama
administration to freeze the U.S. expansion of Gulf carriers Etihad, Emirates
and Qatar. The Gulf carriers, they alleged, have violated international
aviation agreements by taking $42 billion in state subsidies since 2004.
But the efforts of the Big 3, while ongoing, appear to be
flagging. In July State Department authorities opted for a softer approach
to the issue, meeting with UAE and Qatar officials in informal talks.
