DULLES, Va. --
Independence Air will launch nonstop service from its Washington
(Dulles) hub to San Diego April 14 and Los Angeles, San Francisco,
San Jose and Seattle May 1, hoping the new West Coast service on
its A319 aircraft will provide a boost to the struggling
airline.
As Independence
envisions it, the West Coast flights will attract more passengers
to its regional jet flights between Washington and smaller cities
in the East, who will connect in Washington for the West Coast
services. The airline filled fewer than half of its seats in
January, reporting a 45.7% load factor.
To spur travel,
Independence is launching the West Coast service with special
introductory fares as low as $84 one way, with connecting fares as
low as $114 one way, for tickets purchased by Feb. 18 for travel
completed by June 30.
