CHICAGO --
Southwest and ATA will begin taking bookings Jan. 16 for code-share
service that will begin Feb. 4, with all of the services connecting
through Chicago (Midway).
The first code
sharing in Southwest's history will extend its reach to Hawaii and
expand its continental U.S. network to New York (LaGuardia) and
Washington (Reagan National), among others.
Southwest's code
will go on ATA flights from Midway to 11 destinations: Boston;
Denver; Fort Myers/Naples, Fla.; Honolulu; Minneapolis/St. Paul;
New York (LaGuardia); Newark; San Francisco; Sarasota/Bradenton,
Fla.; St. Petersburg/Clearwater, Fla.; and Washington (Reagan
National).
ATA's code will
go on Southwest flights from Midway to more than 40
destinations.
While most of the
code-share services will begin Feb. 4, there are a handful of
Southwest destinations on the list where code sharing will not
begin until March 4, March 17 or April 3.
"For the time
being," as ATA put it, the arrangement does not include reciprocity
on frequent flyer programs. Travelers will earn miles or points for
the carrier they use to book the flights, and each airline's
program will be redeemable only for awards on its own
flights.
