Saga continues: Aviacsa is flying again

Mexican airline Aviacsa is flying again after a second suspension in as many weeks by Mexico's Communications and Transport Ministry.

Aviacsa's flights were halted for about 17 hours last Thursday, affecting some 3,000 passengers and grounding 45 flights.

Mexico's aviation regulator first suspended Aviacsa for three days on June 2, citing irregularities in the maintenance of 25 planes.

Aviacsa won a court ruling at that time, allowing it to resume flying on June 5.

Last week, however, the aviation regulator filed a formal complaint regarding the court decision and last Thursday grounded Aviacsa for a second time, saying its original decision to suspend the low-cost carrier was well grounded.

After the airline's second grounding, Aviacsa obtained a definitive injunction, which the airline said should protect it from future suspensions for the reasons cited in the current dispute.

In its original decision two weeks ago, Mexico's aviation regulator accused Aviacsa of irregularities in its fleet maintenance and inspections. Aviacsa called the irregularities "cosmetic" but said it is taking steps to improve its inspection system and make all necessary repairs.
