Eight new gates will open at Los Angeles International Airport on Oct. 5 as LAX, in partnership with Delta, continues work on the $2.3 billion Delta Sky Way project.

The gates are located in the new Terminal 3. Ultimately, 13 new gates will comprise Terminal 3, and they’ll be combined with the 14 existing gates in Terminal 2 to form a unified 27-gate, 1.2-million square foot facility connecting to LAX's Tom Bradley International Terminal.

"We continue to elevate the customer journey in Los Angeles," said Scott Santoro, Delta's vice president of global sales.

The gate openings next week will mark the second completion in the Delta Sky Way project. Phase one, which opened in April, included a check-in lobby with 46 check-in positions and 32 self-service kiosks, as well as a 30,000-square-foot Delta Sky Club and seven TSA security lanes.

The full Sky Way project is slated for completion next year. In the meantime, several new concessions will be added in Terminal 3 over the coming months, Delta said, including Alfred Coffee, Chicken + Beer, Jamba Juice and Native. Homeboy Café and the Gameway video game lounge are both currently open.

The Delta Sky Way is one part of a $15 billion renovation of LAX that will touch on all nine passenger terminals and build new facilities, including an intra-terminal train and a consolidated rental car facility.

Correction: This story was amended on Monday to correct the number of new gates that will open in LAX terminals 2 and 3.
