Los Angeles World Airports and Delta have completed the first major phase of their joint $2.3 billion Delta Sky Way project, which will ultimately consolidate terminals 2 and 3 at Los Angeles International Airport into one 27-gate complex totaling 1.2 million square feet.

The completed section includes a check-in lobby with 46 check-in positions and 32 self-service kiosks. A new, 30,000-square-foot Delta Sky Club has also been finished and will open in April.

The new lobby and seven TSA security lanes will open on April 20. And Delta expects to open its first three new Terminal 3 gates around Memorial Day.

Completion of the entire Sky Way project is expected sometime next year. In addition to consolidating Delta's terminal 2 and 3, the project will connect the unified terminal to the airport's Tom Bradley International Terminal.

The Delta Sky Way is one part of a $15 billion renovation of LAX that will touch on all nine passenger terminals and build new facilities, including an intra-terminal train and a consolidated rental car facility.
