ST. LOUIS -- TWA is expanding service to Puerto Rico, Mexico, the
Caribbean, Hawaii and the Middle East beginning this winter, but it
is freeing up aircraft for the new flights by ending its
"consistently unprofitable" services to Madrid and Barcelona,
Spain, and Rome Jan. 10.
"We are going to fly where we can make money," said William
Compton, TWA's president and chief executive officer.
The expanded service will add 46 flights and seven
destinations.
New York-area additions include nonstop service to Cancun,
Mexico, from Kennedy and Newark; the only U.S. airline scheduled
service to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, and a new Kennedy
nonstop to Turks & Caicos, all beginning in February.
From St. Louis, Cozumel will become TWA's fifth destination in
Mexico beginning Dec. 16, and Maui will become its second Hawaiian
destination in March.
