Seaborne Airlines, based in St. Croix with
scheduled seaplane services within the U.S. Virgin Islands and to
San Juan, will launch weekend seaplane flights to North Sound on
Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands on July 6.
The schedule calls
for two roundtrip flights on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, using
17-passenger Twin Otters from San Juan to Virgin Gorda via St.
Thomas at 8:30 a.m., arriving at 9:40 a.m. The return flight
departs at 10 a.m., arriving in San Juan at 12:45 p.m.
A St. Thomas flight
to Virgin Gorda will depart at 9:20 a.m., arriving at 9:40 a.m.,
with the return leg leaving at 10 a.m., arriving in St. Thomas at
10:20 a.m.
The new service
coincides with the BVI government's agenda to increase seat
capacity to the destination, especially to Virgin Gorda, which
currently is accessible only by ferry services.
The carrier
launches five new seaplane/ferry connections on June 1 within the
USVI and between St. Croix and West End and Road Town,
Tortola.
Seaborne was
established in 1992 and currently carries more than 175,000
passengers a year on six Twin Otters. For fares and schedules,
