People who drive for ride-hailing service Lyft will have the option of renting cars from General Motors.
The service, called Express Drive, is scheduled to debut in Chicago later this month, and launch in Boston, Baltimore and Washington after that.
In Chicago, drivers can rent a Chevrolet Equinox crossover SUV equipped with OnStar for $99 per week for up to eight weeks at a time. Insurance and maintenance is included.
When drivers complete 65 rides a week in Chicago, drivers will be able to access a vehicle at no weekly rental cost.
Lyft said that in Chicago alone, 60,000 people applied to drive on the Lyft platform but did not have a car that qualified.
"Express Drive directly addresses this need for millions of Americans who do not have access to a qualifying vehicle," Lyft said.
Uber launched a similar program last year, partnering with Enterprise Holdings to rent cars to drivers.
Lyft earlier this year said it raised $1 billion in an equity funding round, including $500 million from GM.
