JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville City Council approved plans
for the 950-room Adam's Mark Hotel.
It was announced earlier this year that the property will more
than triple the size of Jacksonville's next largest meeting
hotel.
The Adam's Mark, slated for a late 2000 opening, will have
127,000 square feet of meeting and exhibit space for
conferences.
The $126 million hotel, two blocks east of Jacksonville Landing,
represents the first new construction on the riverfront since 1994
and will enable the city to be more competitive in the convention
market, a spokeswoman for Adam's Mark said.
The spokeswoman added that the chain fills a niche by seeking
out major metropolitan areas with limited downtown meeting and
conference space.
The St. Louis-based HBE Corp., parent of Adam's Mark Hotels
& Resorts, will design, construct and manage the project, the
spokeswoman said.
The Adam's Mark chain has tripled its number of rooms in the
last five years to more than 11,000 nationwide.
