LONDON -- The agent-focused Discovery event at this year's World
Travel Market will feature a quiz show called "A Question of
Travel," in conjunction with Travel Trade Gazette, a U.K. industry
publication.
The one-hour show, moderated by British television personality
and former international tennis star Sue Barker, will begin at 11
a.m. on Nov. 15 at the Central Feature Area of the Earls Court
Exhibition Center.
Similar in format to the British TV quiz show "A Question of
Sport," two panels, each made up of three industry experts, will
compete by answering direct questions and debating. Points will be
awarded both for correct answers and at the moderator's
discretion.
Phil Davies, editor of Travel Trade Gazette, and Russell
Amerasekera, a presenter on the British TV travel program "Wish You
Were Here," will be the captains of the panels.
Amerasekera's fellow panelists will be Dan Brewin, former head
of British Airways U.K. and Ireland and now deputy chairman of
Accoladia, the joint venture between Thomas Cook and British
Airways, and Todd Carpenter, director of the Travel Trust
Association for independent agents.
Davies' team will consist of Steve Endacott, managing director
of Holidays by Phone, and Sue Biggs, managing director at Kuoni
U.K.
" 'A Question of Travel' is going to appeal to a wide range of
industry professionals from every sector, as well as travel
agents," said group exhibition director Fiona Jeffery.
"It will get to the heart of some of the thorniest and most
difficult issues facing the industry at present, plus capture the
more lighthearted and humorous elements of our business."
The teams will be asked to address a range of subjects, covering
topics from commission levels and agent salaries to takeovers,
economic downturns and back-to-back ticketing.
The majority of questions will come from Travel Trade Gazette
readers.
Conference attendees must make reservations to attend the quiz
show. Call (011) 44-172 773-8857; faxing (011) 44-172 773-8867, or

Reservations will be taken on a first-come, first-served
basis.
