Customs and Border Protection (CBP) will harmonize the application fees for the Global Entry, Nexus and Sentri trusted-traveler programs, effective Oct.1.
With the changes, all three application fees will be $120, up from $100 for Global Entry and $50 for Nexus, and down from $122.25 for Sentri.
CBP said that along with matching the programs' application fees, the changes will enable the agency to cover application-processing costs. Fees for the programs have not been updated in 15 years.
"As these programs have matured and expanded, updating the fee structures is critical to the continuation and management of the programs," the agency said.
Global Entry offers expedited clearance into the U.S. for individuals who arrive by air. Nexus offers expedited entry into the U.S from Canada via land, sea and air. Sentri allows expedited U.S. entry via roads and air from Mexico.
Membership in each of the programs lasts five years. Program members undergo recurring background checks and all must be interviewed in-person before enrollment.
As part of the fee restructuring, application for all three programs will be free for minors whose parents or legal guardians are already enrolled or are enrolling concurrently.
Currently, minors can enroll for free in the Nexus program but must pay the $100 application fee for Global Entry. Sentri has various family plans.
