TIA launches site with passport info

With the governments new passport regulations set to go into effect on Jan. 23, the Travel Industry Association, in cooperation with the Travel Business Roundtable, launched a Web site to aid travelers seeking information on how to obtain passports.

The site, www.getapassportnow.com, went live on Dec. 11.

The U.S. governments new passport rules, under the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative, will require that all air passengers re-entering the U.S. have a valid passport.

"Our objective here is to assist both the Department of State and the Department of Homeland Security and their efforts to communicate what the new passport requirements are as a result of the legislation having to do with the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative," said Roger Dow, the TIA's president and CEO.

Dow said that only 27% of Americans have passports but that in light of the WHTI regulations, passport demand is up substantially in the U.S.
