AMResorts, a hotel management company with
brands totaling about 5,000 rooms over seven properties in Mexico
and three in the Dominican Republic, celebrated its fifth
anniversary by revealing that it will expand its portfolio into
Jamaica, according to Alex Zozaya, president.
The firm also will
launch a rewards program for agents, which account for more than
75% of all bookings, in October, Zozaya said.
AMResorts' three
brands are Secrets Resorts & Spas, Dreams Resorts & Spas
and Sunscape Resorts & Spas.
"Jamaica is our
newest destination, and we will open a 350-suite Secrets resort in
October 2008 on an island located between Montego Bay and Negril,"
Zozaya said. "We selected Jamaica because it is a romantic
destination, and the Jamaica Tourist Board has done a great job in
marketing the destination for the U.S. market," he added. (See
related story below.)
The property, which
will be targeted to the high-end, adults-only market, will be an
all-inclusive resort as are all the AMResorts'
properties.
Zozaya said he
preferred the term "unlimited luxury" rather than all-inclusive,
however.
"This is the term
we use. Our approach is different than most of the other hotel
firms that have all-inclusive offerings. We use no wristbands and
have no buffet meals or buffet restaurants," he said.
AMResorts'
five-year plan is to double its room count by the end of 2008,
according to Zozaya. New destinations could include Aruba, the
Bahamas, Costa Rica and in Mexico, Los Cabos, Ixtapa and the Baja
area.
"My goal is to have
one resort in each brand at each location," he said.
