Accor has pledged to remove all single-use plastics from its
hotels by 2022.
The goal expands on the hospitality group’s previous
commitment to eliminate all plastic straws, stirrers and cotton swabs, as well
as a promise to remove all miniature toiletry amenities and single-use plastic
cups by the end of 2020.
Under Accor’s broader crackdown, all disposable plastic
items that are used once and then discarded will be eliminated. This includes
items like plastic bags for laundry or extra pillows, plastic water bottles,
plastic food packaging, plastic take-away dishes and tableware, plastic gifts
and welcome products, and plastic keycards.
Accor said alternatives to plastic will be proposed to
replace each specific item.
Accor has 39 hotel brands and more than 5,000 hotels and
residences worldwide.
