Caneel BayCaneel Bay Resort on St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands will no longer be managed by Rosewood Hotels & Resorts.

Rosewood had managed the 166-room resort since 1993.

"In 1993, Rosewood signed a 20-year agreement to manage Caneel Bay and this contract has now come to an end. We are immensely proud of what has been achieved at the resort," said Radha Arora, Rosewood's president.

"Over the last 20 years, under Rosewood's management, Caneel Bay has been warmly praised by our guests and has been recognized with numerous awards. In turn, the property helped to build the reputation Rosewood enjoys today as one of the world's most respected ultra-luxury hotel groups. On behalf of Rosewood, I would like to wish Caneel Bay much success for the future."

CBI Acquisitions, which has owned the resort since 2003, will continue as owners and will operate it as an independent hotel when it reopens under the Caneel Bay Resort name on Nov. 1. Caneel Bay closed for the low season on Aug. 26.

Nikolay Hotze, the hotel's managing director, said that Caneel Bay will continue to be known for its low-key luxury and attentive service.

"The purposeful absence of digital distractions will remain the same, right down to the donkey and deer that are such a part of the Caneel Bay Resort experience," Hotze said.

Rooms at Caneel Bay do not have televisions or phones.

In November, the resort will open ZoZo's Ristorante, a conversion of the former Sugar Mill restaurant that sits atop the ruins of an 18th-century sugar mill.

Also new will be Cannella, a coffee shop and Italian gelateria near the gift shop. The new Sushi Bar, adjacent to the Caneel Beach Bar & Grill, has already opened.

Two new spa treatments are available to guests, including the hot bamboo massage and the hot seashell massage. Each is 80 minutes long and priced at $255.

Starting winter rate for the resort is $539 per room, per night, double.
Caneel Bay Resort plans to renovate all guestrooms in phases over the next two to three years, beginning in 2014.

The 170-acre property and seven beaches are within the grounds of Virgin Islands National Park, which occupies two-thirds of St. John.
