The Crowne Plaza San Jose-Silicon Valley in Milpitas, Calif., is using a robotic
butler at the 304-room hotel.
The robot, named Dash, can bring guests snacks, toothbrushes and other small items. The
three-foot robot travels at a “human walking pace” and uses its WiFi
connection to navigate the hotel, call elevators and alert guests via a phone
when it is at their door.
Based on testing at the Milpitas hotel, Crowne Plaza will determine whether to use the robot at other
properties.
A robotic butler was put into service about
15 miles to the west at the Aloft Cupertino, where "Botlr" made its debut last August. Both
Dash and Botlr were built by Savioke, which is based in nearby Santa Clara.
