Starwood Hotels & Resorts has opened its first Element hotel in Lexington, Mass, a suburb of Boston.
Element is an extended-stay chain inspired by Starwood’s Westin brand. All Element hotels will be certified by the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System.
Starwood said the 123-room Element Lexington will serve as Starwood’s “green trailblazer,” as the company intends to apply the green knowledge it obtains at the hotel to sister brands, including Westin, Sheraton and Le Meridien.
On the same day Starwood opened the Element hotel in Lexington, it opened an Aloft property right next to it. Aloft, Starwood’s new midscale lifestyle brand, made its debut in Montreal in early June and has since opened three U.S. hotels in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.; Rogers-Bentonville, Ark.; and Lexington, Mass.
