Google is piloting its Interpreter Mode translator at the
concierge desk of three U.S. hotels: the Dream Downtown in New York, Caesars
Palace Las Vegas and Hyatt Regency San Francisco Airport.
Available via the Google Assistant on Google Home devices
and Smart Displays, the voice-activated Interpreter Mode is able to translate
conversation into dozens of languages, spoken and written.
The Dream Downtown is deploying the tool at registration as
well as the concierge.
"We're excited about allowing people to speak in their
native language at the front desk," said Dream Hotel Group CEO Jay Stein,
adding that the property is also experimenting with Google Assistant
capabilities in-room. "A guest service agent can respond to a guest in
English, and it'll come back out instantly in Mandarin, which allows for a
perfect conversation. If we see great results, then we'll look to roll it out
company-wide."
Google expects to expand its Interpreter Mode technology
into other travel-related uses.
