Hilton to introduce floor layouts, keyless room entry

|

Within the next couple of months, Hilton Worldwide will allow members of its loyalty program to choose their rooms from a list of floor plans.

Hilton will add the feature for its flagship brand and Waldorf Astoria, Conrad, Hilton Garden Inn, Homewood Suites and Home2 Suites by the end of summer, and said it will include that function at almost all of its hotels by the end of the year.

Also, Hilton next year will permit guests to skip check-in at the front desk and use their smartphones as room keys.

That feature initially will be added at all U.S. hotels under four of Hilton’s brands, though the company isn’t disclosing which brands. Most of Hilton’s hotels will add the feature by the end of 2016, Hilton said.

Earlier this year, Starwood Hotels & Resorts said it would introduce a pilot program this year at a handful of hotels where Starwood Preferred Guest members could use their smartphones as room keys.

Starwood, which was working with Sweden-based lock-maker Assa Abloy to develop the program, said in January that it planned to roll out smartphone check-in and room entry to all of its Aloft and W hotels by next year.
