The iconic Hotel Bel-Air in Los Angeles reopened last week after a two-year renovation to the 65-year old hotel, which had been closed since 2009.
The Spanish Colonial hotel, located just west of Beverly Hills, added 12 rooms to bring its total to 103 while adding a new fitness studio, 4,100-square foot spa and restaurant by celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck, according to hotel operator Dorchester Collection.
The property’s new presidential suite has more than 6,700 square feet of indoor and outdoor space.
The property was redesigned by Alexandra Champalimoud, whose other work includes New York’s Algonquin and San Francisco’s Fairmont hotels, and the Rockwell Group, which has worked on Starwood’s Aloft boutique hotels as well as Hollywood’s Kodak Theatre.
The property’s famous swans remained at the hotel’s Swan Lake during the renovation, though the lake received new pumps that will save the hotel 1.5 million gallons of water a year.
The hotel had long been a celebrity hideaway and had been in operation for 63 years before being shut down in 2009 for the renovation.
Dorchester Collection, which also manages the Beverly Hills Hotel, declined to disclose how much was spent on the renovation.
