IHG Hotels & Resorts will bring its InterContinental brand back to the Romanian capital of Bucharest with the opening of the InterContinental Athenee Palace Bucharest early next year.

Scheduled to open this January, the InterContinental Athenee Palace Bucharest will be housed in a building that dates back to 1914, located in close proximity to the city's Palace of the Parliament.

InterContinental's former flag in downtown Bucharest, the InterContinental Bucharest, parted ways with IHG at the end of 2021 and has since relaunched as the Grand Hotel Bucharest.

The InterContinental Athenee Palace Bucharest will also offer a wellness area, comprising a gym, an indoor swimming pool, a sauna and other amenities as well as a ballroom and meeting rooms for events and conferences.

The InterContinental Athenee Palace Bucharest joins the luxury brand's existing roster of 31 hotels across Europe.
