An InterContinental hotel has opened within The Wharf, a new $2 billion development in Washington that stretches one mile along the Potomac River.

The InterContinental Washington D.C. -- The Wharf has 278 rooms, including a two-story presidential suite called the Constellation, and boasts amenities such as a glass-enclosed lobby and a 4,000-square-foot L'Occitane-branded spa.

The hotel also has more than 17,000 square feet of meeting space as well as three restaurants and lounges, including one whose outer glass wall opens onto the sidewalk along the waterfront.

The Wharf has four piers on the Potomac as well as restaurants, shops, and three hotels. The district, which includes the restoration of a 200-year-old fish market, also has 1,400 residences.
