Actor Robert de Niro is part of a group that has signed an agreement with the government of Antigua and Barbuda to invest $250 million in the K Club, an abandoned resort on Barbuda that has been closed since 2004.

Construction is slated to begin in the next 12 months.

Prime Minister Gaston Browne appointed De Niro special economic envoy of the twin-island nation, saying that the actor and the K Club project will help attract more investment and American celebrities to Barbuda as a result.
