Sale of Anguilla property expected to close this month

RENDEZVOUS BAY WEST, Anguilla -- The sale of the 100-room Sonesta Beach Resort & Villas here, which has been closed since September, is expected to be finalized late this month.

New York-based Flag Luxury Properties, a high-end commercial developer, plans to replace the resort with a new 140-room, five-star property and an 18-hole golf course, according to a spokesman with the Anguilla Hotel & Tourism Association.

Although several hotel firms have expressed interest in managing the new resort, including Four Seasons and Ritz-Carlton, no announcement has been made.

Earlier this year, Sonesta and Sandals had been involved in talks regarding the Anguilla property, which fell through.

Sonesta International has hotels in the U.S., Egypt, Italy and Peru. Its Bermuda resort also is up for sale.
