Hong Kong-based Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts opened its first hotel in Istanbul, Turkey.
The Shangri-La Bosphorus, Istanbul sits on the European side of the strait that separates Europe from Asia.
The property has 186 rooms ranging from about 500 to 700 square feet, and was built partially from the remains of an old tobacco warehouse.
Shangri-La joins other luxury hotel companies such as Jumeirah Group, Morgans Hotel Group and Viceroy Hotels & Resorts, which have either entered the Istanbul market or have announced plans to do so within the next two years.
