U.S. hotel occupancy fell 2.1% for the week of Feb. 16 to 22, according to hotel data firm STR. The question: Is the decline due to coronavirus fears?

If the performance of airport hotels is any indication, it very well may be. Occupancy was down 4.8% for the week.

However, one week of data is not sufficient for STR to make that correlation, said STR senior vice president of lodging insights Jan Freitag.

STR said it is closely monitoring airport hotels, convention travel and hotel performance in large cities.
