TripAdvisor, Facebook launch restaurant-review app

TripAdvisor teamed up with Facebook to launch an application that provides user reviews of restaurants, marking an move by the world’s largest travel-review site to boost its exposure to the world’s largest social network.

The smartphone application, called Local Picks, culls reviews for more than 850,000 restaurants worldwide. The application provides restaurant ratings on a scale of 1 to 5 as well as addresses, hours, cuisine type and, of course, reviews written on TripAdvisor.

Through the application, Facebook members can add restaurants to their pages' timelines. Non-English versions of the application will debut this summer.

TripAdvisor has more than 50 million unique monthly visitors, while Facebook has a monthly user base of more than 900 million.
