Basecamp Explorer, a tour operator that specializes in adventure travel in the high Arctic, announced its 2026 itineraries.

The Norway-based operator has three lodges around Spitsbergen in the Svalbard archipelago and leads dog sledding, snowmobiling and hiking expeditions in the tundra.

Basecamp operates year-round through three seasons: winter, summer and polar night.

The company will operate four itineraries during the winter season, which runs February through May.

The "Trapper's Trail" itinerary will take explorers on a five-day dog sledding expedition. The itinerary can only accommodate six guests, who will spend three days mushing through the Arctic, following historic trapper routes. Travelers will be in charge of their own team of dogs and will spend their nights camping under the stars. Prices start at approximately $6,500.

The eight-day "Telegraph Route" starts at approximately $10,000 and is limited to just two to four guests. The itinerary traces Svalbard's historic telegraph lines while dog sledding and includes wild camping. Guests will also stay at Isfjord Radio, a Cold War-era radio station that is now a boutique wilderness hotel.

Basecamp will offer five itineraries during summer, from June to September.

"Unfold The North"  costs approximately $7,000 and will bring guests on a five-day expedition to Nordenskiold Lodge, which the operator says is the world's northernmost commercial lodge. The five-day itinerary features dog sledding, embarking on a sea safari and hiking the Nordenskiold Glacier.

The seven-day "Uncharted Circuit," which Basecamp bills as the "signature summer adventure," is limited to just three to eight guests. The itinerary is approximately $10,000 per person and incudes stays at all three of Basecamp's lodges: Basecamp Hotel, Nordenskiold Lodge and Isfjord Radio. Itinerary highlights include crossing the Isfjord in a closed boat, a sea safari and dog sledding.

Basecamp will operate just one itinerary during polar night, the period when the sun does not rise for more than 24 hours. Held October through February, "Chasing The Northern Lights" costs about $2,500 per person. The four-day trip features dog sledding and a mountain hike, all while keeping an eye out for the Northern Lights.
