ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J. -- Nick Athans, founder of Tourlite International, closed on the purchase of the company he founded in 1970 as an operator to Greece, the eastern Mediterranean, the Middle East and Latin America, from Far & Wide.

The sale, for $75,000, was approved by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Southern District of Florida in Miami Oct. 24. Athans said rebuilding the company to its former strength will cost nearly $1 million.

Athans said he is working toward a "rebirth" in December.

The company plans to rebuild the network it established for travel to the eastern Mediterranean region as well as Latin America, which it entered in 1980. Athans also would like to re-enter the Israel and Egypt markets.

Under Athans as chairman will be Yannis Papaioannou, who served as president with Far & Wide; Valerie Athans-Papaioannou as executive vice president; and Maro Athans-Doundoulakis as vice president of operations.
