G Adventures has canceled the Dec. 7 departure of its "Journey to the Antarctic Peninsula" cruise due to an engine failure on its 134-passenger MS Expedition.
On Nov. 18, the Expedition’s port-side engine failed unexpectedly, according to G Adventures.
“Our engineering staff and the engine manufacturers have been working to rectify the issue in time for the scheduled departure on Dec. 7. However, we were advised that we could not guarantee the repair would be completed within the time frame required for the departure of this cruise,” the company said in a statement.
G Adventures said it was left with no alternative but to cancel the cruise.
All impacted passengers were offered a full refund for the cost of their cruise, and were given the option to book a future Expedition cruise with a 15% discount on any available sailings, or to book another G Adventures tour at a 20% discount on available dates. The company will refund any balance.
The Expedition, built in 1972, was refurbished in 2009.
