ST. LOUIS -- Intrav Inc., which operates deluxe-tour operator Intrav and small-ship operator Clipper Cruise Line, acquired tour operator LifeLong Learning in Aliso Viejo, Calif. for an undisclosed sum.

In a statement, Intrav said the two companies have "enjoyed a significant working relationship" over the past several years, with LifeLong Learning using Clipper's ships for its own programs.

Both companies specialize in destination-oriented travel aboard small ships and on customized escorted land programs.

As part of the acquisition, Bill Diebenow, LifeLong Learning's president, will relocate to Intrav's St. Louis headquarters.

"The acquisition of a great company like LifeLong Learning, with is history of personalized service and customized programs, extends our ability to reach those interested in our type of substantive, destination-oriented travel, and adds to our already strong foundation of travel opportunities," said Intrav CEO David Drier.

Intrav Inc., established in 1959, is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Swiss-based Kuoni Group. Intrav's programs include private-jet charters, European riverboat cruises and African safaris. Clipper's four small ships are the Clipper Adventurer, the Clipper Odyssey, the Nantucket Clipper and the Yorktown Clipper.
