WASHINGTON -- The Airlines Reporting Corp. slightly relaxed a
ticket security rule for travel agents who operate satellite ticket
printer locations that are attended.
Previously, the rule required such sites to remove the ticket
stock from the printer at the end of each day and store it in a
locked steel container.
Effective Jan. 1, the rule is eliminated if the printer already
is in a locked steel container with a combination lock or placed in
a locked room at the end of each day.
An ARC spokesman said the change is a housekeeping matter that
formalizes an existing informal practice.
It is one of two minor changes for satellite ticket printers
(STPs) that were approved by the ARC board.
The other change, also effective Jan. 1, allows cruise ships
that operate on-board STPs to print tickets while the ship is in
territorial waters of a foreign country.
The rule aims to help cruise ships issue last-minute tickets for
crew rotations.
