Saying that it gets a phone call or Facebook message every
day from people asking how they can become a travel agent, ASTA has launched an
online course for those interested in learning the ropes.
The "Becoming a Travel Agent" course is $25,
instructing about the travel industry in general and giving tips on how to
launch a career as a travel adviser. The course informs students about travel agency business models and where to find training options.
"Who better than ASTA to offer a course that will
also help our member agencies bring new talent in the industry?" said ASTA
CEO Zane Kerby.
The course is presented by Amanda Cecil, undergraduate program
director and associate professor of the department of tourism, conventions and event
management at Indiana University-Purdue University, Indianapolis. A 44-page
guide accompanies the course.
ASTA said the tutorial is "designed for people who
are entrepreneurial in spirit, who have great social interaction and
interpersonal skills and have always wanted to play a key role in this exciting
yet complex industry."
