RICHMOND, Va. -- Access America, a major travel insurance provider,
said effective Nov. 14 it would provide maximum benefit coverage
only for airlines, cruise lines and tour operators included on its
list of 89 "covered suppliers".
American and United airlines, Globus and Cosmos, Walt Disney
Travel Co., Carnival Cruise Lines and Royal Caribbean International
are among the suppliers included on the list.
"While we are not happy about limiting the scope of the benefit,
the current business climate does not make it feasible to continue
the 'all supplier' coverage of the past," said Jonathan Ansell,
president and chief executive officer of World Access, Access
America's parent company.
Under Access' new policy, travelers are required to purchase
trip cancellation and interruption insurance within 14 days of the
initial trip payment date in order to receive the company's maximum
default protection.
Access said the list of covered suppliers "is not intended to
make any statement about or offer any judgment of any travel
supplier."
