Altour acquires Minn. agency Advantage Travel & Incentives

New York-based travel agency Altour International acquired Advantage Travel & Incentives of Savage, Minn.

Advantage, headed by CEO Mary Sue Leathers, does business both as Advantage Performance Network and Advantage Travel Management. It plans and operates conferences, meetings and events in addition to running corporate and leisure travel businesses.

The agency's incentive-marketing business offers a Web-based performance-improvement platform.

Altour said that Advantage would integrate with Altour's Travel Authority operations, together providing sales volume exceeding $900 million.

Altour acquired Indiana-based Travel Authority last year.

Advantage Performance Network "is an excellent fit for Altour," Alexandre Chemla, Altour's founder and president, said in a statement. "[Leathers] places a premium on customer service. She believes strongly that business is all about building successful relationships -- with employees, customers and channel partners."

Altour is the largest member of the American Express Representative Network, with $809 million in sales for 2009, and is ranked 14th on Travel Weekly's 2010 Power List.

Leathers said Advantage looked forward to "the increased buying power and enhanced capabilities Altour offers."

"The [Advantage Performance Network] team is excited to take this next step in the evolution of our company," Leathers said.

This report appeared in the July 19 issue of Travel Weekly.
