April Travel Protection has introduced a new travel insurance policy, the Pandemic Plus Plan, which does not carry an exclusion for pandemics.
It is a single-trip plan that covers trip interruptions, cancellations and emergency accident and sickness expenses related to Covid-19. The "plus" part of the plan references the optional add-on of a cancel-for-any-reason rider.
The policy starts at $25 per person. The cancel-for-any-reason upgrade is available for an additional 50% of the base premium; with that, travelers can get reimbursed for up to 75% of unused, nonrefundable travel arrangement in the event of a cancellation.
According to April, before purchasing the plan, travelers must ensure there are no government travel bans in place during their trip. The policy does not offer losses related to travel bans from governments, fears over Covid-19 or similar unless the cancel-for-any-reason rider has been purchased.
