WELLESLEY, Mass. -- The Travel Institute laid off five of its 13 employees at the end of 2004 after an analysis of sales results showed support from the large travel vendor market was not as strong as forecast.

Support remained strong, the Institute said, among individuals and retail travel agencies for specialist educational programs as well as certification, membership and testing.

Staff cuts were made in the business development, marketing communications and program development areas.

The operation is managed by Maureen Kennedy, executive vice president and general manager, and Pat Gagnon, director of product development.
