The hosted travel agent's average income this year is $40,377, a 16% increase from last year, according to Host Agency Reviews' annual agent income survey.

Agents specializing in luxury travel were the highest earners with average income of $58,688.

Agents who hold certification through the Travel Institute had income 20.8% higher than the average at $48,764. That is in keeping with data from the Travel Institute released earlier this summer that showed certified agents earn more than peers without certification.

New agents' income increased by an average of 441.2% between their first and second years in business. Eleven percent of the survey's responding hosted agents reported earning $100,000 or more.

The survey was submitted via the host agencies and franchises listed on HostAgencyReviews.com, including Andavo Travel, Cruise Planners, KHM Travel Group, Nexion, OASIS Travel Network, Outside Agents, Travel Planners International, Travel Quest and Uniglobe Travel Center. More than 600 agents responded.
