Don Daly, 72, a retired American Express
executive and an ASTA Lifetime Achievement Award winner, died July
25 after suffering a heart attack.
Daly joined
American Express as a clerk when he was in his 20s and spent his
entire 42-year career with the company.
He retired in the
late 1990s as vice president of worldwide travel
coordination/travel industry relations. He also consulted for his
former employer for a period of time.
Daly was active
in a trade organizations and took on a range of assignments with
relevance across the industry. He was a member of the national
advisory board for the Academy of Travel and Tourism, a board
member for ASTAs Rebuild Dubrovnik Fund and the chairman of the
Partnership in Awareness for the Society for the Advancement of
Travel for the Handicapped (now the Society for Accessible Travel
& Hospitality).
In recognition of
his work on behalf of travelers with disabilities, he received the
Paul Grossinger Award for Humanitarian Endeavor in 1996.
In addition, Daly
became the first inductee into the American Express Hall of Fame in
1985. He was awarded ASTAs Lifetime Achievement Award in
1996.
He is survived by
his wife June, three children and six grandchildren.
