SECAUCUS, N.J. -- The airline, travel and meetings industry
publications managed under the name of Reed Travel Group will be
transferred to other divisions of Reed Elsevier.
The U.S.-based travel and meetings periodicals, including Travel
Weekly, TravelAge, Travel Management Daily and Meetings &
Conventions Magazine, will be part of Reed Elsevier Business
Information (REBI), based in Newton, Mass., under the management of
president and chief executive officer Bruce Barnet. Also moving to
REBI are the U.S.-based travel directories, including Hotel &
Travel Index, Hotel & Travel Index International, the Official
Hotel Guide, the Official Cruise Guide and the Official Meetings
and Facilities Guide.
The international airline guides, including the OAG Pocket
Flight Guides, the OAG World Airways Guides and the OAG Air Cargo
Guide, will be headquartered in Dunstable, England, and will be
part of Reed Business Information (RBI), based in Sutton, England,
under the management of chief executive Keith Jones.
Both the periodicals and the directory group will continue to be
based here. The key U.S. operation of the international airline
guides will continue to be based in Oak Brook, Ill.
As a result of the reassignment of the businesses, the position
of chief executive of Reed Travel Group, held by Kathy Misunas, no
longer will exist, and she will leave the organization.
The status of another Reed Travel Group unit, Travel Net,
developers of corporate self-booking software, is still to be
determined. Reed Elsevier said it was "exploring strategic options"
with regard to Santa Clara, Calif.-based Travel Net.
The two Reed Elsevier divisions assuming management of the Reed
Travel Group businesses have substantial interests in
business-to-business publishing. The U.S.-based Reed Elsevier
Business Information portfolio includes more than 120 publications,
among them Hotels Magazine, the leading magazine in the hotel
industry. The British-based Reed Business Information group
includes Travel Weekly UK, Flight International and Airline
Business magazine.
Reed Elsevier said that the former Reed Travel Group businesses
would benefit from REBI's and RBI's "publishing and marketing
expertise, established infrastructure and considerable experience
in developing both hard copy and electronic products."
In another announcement, Reed Elsevier said that a rebate
program to compensate advertisers affected by circulation
irregularities is proceeding according to schedule. Implementation
of a hotel rebate program and an airline rebate program are under
way, and details of the programs are being presented to
advertisers.
