CHICAGO -- Travel Weekly will offer a first-ever opportunity to
delegates at its annual technology conference, set for May 3 to 5
here, to attend an in-depth training session on a single subject.
Travel Weekly retained the services of New Horizons Computer
Learning Centers, a computer training company based in Santa Ana,
Calif., to teach attendees the fine points of using Powerpoint
2000.
The session, free to conference delegates and lasting from 8:30
a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on May 3, has a dollar value of $245 if purchased
directly from New Horizons. A light lunch will be included.
The training company, which claims "hundreds" of franchised and
owned locations around the world, has provided learning sessions at
the annual Trams University users sessions sponsored by the Los
Angeles-based vendor of back-office systems.
New Horizons also is a creator of training software and is noted
for its workbooks that feature a large number of sample computer
screens.
A free New Horizons manual, valued at $22.50, will be provided
to each delegate who attends the Powerpoint session at the Travel
Weekly Conference.
Participants who wish to attend this seminar must register in
advance.
In another first, Travel Weekly will make meeting rooms
available, at $300 each, for any participating company that wishes
to schedule a proprietary add-on meeting at the conclusion of the
conference itself.
Available on a first-come, first-served basis, the rooms
accommodate from 75 to 200 people. Nine rooms are available from
noon to 5 p.m. on May 5, and six rooms are available for the full
day on Saturday, May 6, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Planners envision vendors scheduling users sessions for
customers.
The Travel Weekly Conference 2000 will be staged at the Sheraton
here.
The registration fee for the meeting is $550.
However, the rate for members of the Travel Weekly Crossroads
Web site is $500, and for all delegates, the early-bird rate is
$425. The early-bird registration deadline is March 3.
Also, for all delegates, the registration for a second
registrant from the same company is $275, and a single-day rate of
$200 applies.
For information on registration, call (800) 889-5254 or fax
(201) 902-7282. Delegates also can register from the Crossroads
home page.
Rooms are reserved at the Sheraton Chicago for delegates at $195
single/$215 double and must be booked by April 10 by calling (800)
233-4100. Out-of-towners attending the Powerpoint training session
will need to arrive on May 2.
Otherwise, the first scheduled event is the first round of
seminars, starting at 11 a.m. on May 3.
