Kayak has introduced a feature in its app enabling travelers to use augmented reality (AR) to test whether their bag passes muster as a carry-on.

The tool, which Kayak said is patent-pending, is in the latest version of the app when a user launches a flight search under "new bag measurement tool." It is available to updated Apple devices.

Users are prompted to scan the floor to calibrate measurements, then capture the size of the bag by moving around it with their phone's camera.

Kayak then tells the user if the bag will fit as a carry-on or if it needs to be checked. It incorporates baggage policies from all airlines, Kayak said.
