Worldspan to roll out Web platform

LAS VEGAS -- Worldspan introduced an Internet-based system scheduled to go live by the end of October.

The new system enables agents to go back and forth between the Internet and the CRS from within a single application.

In addition, bookings made on the Internet can be tracked in the same accounting system that tracks bookings made through the reservations system. The new features are enhancements of the Go! portal currently in use.

Three primary components are included in a new resource center accessible from the portal: Worldspan on the Web, Web Airfare and My Trip and More.

  • Worldspan on the Web gathers travel booking sites, then channels Web bookings through an automated bookkeeping system that enables agents to track Web bookings through the same system as airline bookings.
  • Web Airfare compares fares in the reservations system with Web fares from airlines and consolidators and brings back results on a single display.
  • My Trip and More, through which clients can view or print their itinerary, is already in use, but the new version incorporates bookings made on the Internet into the itineraries.
  • Worldspan also introduced a new feature on its reservations system called Automatic Reissues, which automates the process of issuing new tickets and recalculating fares when a client's itinerary changes.

Worldspan claims the system reduces the time from about 20 minutes when done manually to seconds.

In conjunction with its new Web technologies, Worldspan, in partnership with Lotus, is offering a program of Internet-based training for the new products.

The programs will enable agents to participate on line with instructor-led training sessions.
