The St. Regis Budapest has just opened, marking a significant move in Europe for the brand.

The hotel, which will likely be welcomed by river cruise clients who end their voyages in Budapest and want to extend their trips, has 63 rooms and 39 suites. Of note are the Klotild Tower Suite and the two-bedroom Presidential Suite that extends to over 1,800 square feet and has a private balcony overlooking the Danube and the city, including the Elizabeth Bridge and the Citadella.

The Belle Epoch architecture of the hotel is beyond significant; it’s set within Hungary’s Klotild Palace, an iconic landmark considered to be a Neo-Baroque emblem of the Austro‑Hungarian Golden Age. (Its “palace” designation comes from the fact that it was commissioned by Her Imperial and Royal Highness Princess Klotild of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha at the turn of the 20th century.)

The UNESCO‑listed building was also once the ceremonial entrance to Pest for travelers crossing the Elisabeth Bridge, known for its 141-foot tower that’s adorned with enlarged replicas of Archduke Joseph Karl’s crown.

Cocktails, anyone?
This is a St. Regis so naturally it’s got a great bar, and a fancy one at that. It’s expected to be a gathering place for upscale locals, and guess what? It’s got its own twist on the Bloody Mary cocktail, a St. Regis staple at every property. The Budapest version is called the “Crown Mary,” which pays royal homage to the Klotild Palace.

Dessert lovers, rejoice. Klotild Patisserie serves up Hungarian and French-Viennoiserie pâtisserie and artisanal coffee, and the setting couldn’t be better, it’s within a historic apothecary. Sounds like a must-see to us.

Other branded St. Regis experiences happen in the Atrium, including Afternoon Tea and the ritualistic Champagne Sabrage.

Spa time
Hungary is known for its mineral springs (think, wellness facilities) so naturally The St. Regis Budapest has a cool take on its spa, which offers rituals and treatments which lean into the rich baths heritage. Here, there are three treatment rooms, an  indoor pool, a traditional hammam, a Finnish sauna and experience showers. Products are from Sothys, as well as Omorovicza, a local luxury skincare brand.
