Italy-AmalfiCoastItaly, Hawaii and Tahiti are honeymooners' top picks for post-nuptial travels, according to Modern Bride magazine's 13th annual "World's Best Honeymoons Survey."

Published in the consumer publication's August/September 2009 issue, the survey ranks 50 honeymoon destinations, hotels and resorts with the most luxurious amenities and destinations offering "the best" in categories such as the romance factor, affordability, adventure, seclusion, nightlife, food and culture, according to Modern Bride.

The survey was conducted among Virtuoso's 6,000 luxury travel agents.

"This year's results continue a trend we've seen over the past few years, with always romantic Italy winning the top spot and sexy or exotic island locales such as Hawaii, Tahiti, Greece, Bali, Fiji and the Maldives dominating the Top 10," said Modern Bride's Travel Editor Donna Heiderstadt.

"In addition to a fine showing by Caribbean islands (eight were ranked in the Top 25), our experts continued to give kudos to adventure locales like Costa Rica, South Africa, Thailand, Australia and Belize -- all of which also made the Top 25."

Rounding out the Top 10 honeymoon destination list, after Italy, Hawaii and Tahiti, were -- in order of popularity -- France, Greece, Bali, Mexico, Fiji, the Maldives and St. Lucia.

Tahiti, Italy and Hawaii (in that order) were also named "most romantic." Other destinations categories include "best up-and-coming locale" ModernBrideCover(Dubai, Croatia and Vietnam), "best for nightlife" (Las Vegas, New York City and Brazil), and "best for mountains" (Switzerland, Colorado and Canada).

When it comes to accommodations, resorts and hotels in the South Pacific scored well with survey respondents.

For example, Virtuoso agents cited the Four Seasons Bora Bora, French Polynesia as having the "ultimate honeymoon suite" and the Four Seasons Resort Bali at Jimbaran Bay as having the best service. In fact, Four Seasons was named best hotel brand for honeymooners.

Meanwhile, in the all-inclusive resort brand category, Sandals came out tops. The hotel and resort portion of the survey drilled down to specific details, such as "best beds," won by One&Only Palmilla in Los Cabos, Mexico, and "best beach," to be found at Grace Bay Club in Turks and Caicos.
